Presenter of the National Book Awards

Best of BookUp Selections 2013

Here’s our second annual Best of BookUp Selections, a summer reading list straight from the middle-school students in BookUp. We asked the students at our sites in New York City and Texas to vote on their favorite books read in BookUp during the 2012-2013 school year. Check out the results, and we hope you’ll share some of your favorite summer reads with us via BookUp’s Twitter, @BookUpNews.

Some of our BookUp sites also contributed pieces on their favorite books to Up All Night, our exhibition on the history of the National Book Award in Young People’s Literature. Find links to their pieces below. Students at University Settlement on the Lower East Side again ranked all of the books read and then averaged each book’s individual score by rating them in categories including: Readability, Likability, Universality, and Importance.
