NBA Backlist Walker Percy won the National Book Award for Fiction in 1962 for his first novel, The Moviegoer. He went on to write five other novels, including The Last Gentleman, an NBA Finalist in 1967, and The Second Coming, an NBA Finalist in 1981, as well as many nonfiction works. He was also instrumental in getting John Kennedy Toole's A Confederacy of Dunces published more than a decade after the author's suicide. Percy was born in Birmingham, Alabama, attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and received a medical degree from Columbia University.
