Novelist
Amanda Stern and Special Guest
Read from BREAKFAST
AT TIFFANY'S in Madison
Square Park
|
This
summer, the National Book Awards
teams up with the Madison Square
Park Conservancy to present "Breakfast"
Under the Stars. Writer Amanda
Stern and a special guest will
read excerpts from Truman Capote's
classic novella Breakfast at
Tiffany's. If you only know
Capote from In Cold Blood
or Philip Seymour Hoffman's portrayal
in the recent film Capote,
you're missing out on one of America's
most elegant and accomplished
writers of short fiction. Join
Stern and a special guest for
a summer evening in the park on
Thursday, July 27, 6:30 p.m.
at Madison Square Park (on 23rd
Street between Fifth and Madison).
This event is part of the Madison
Square
Reads series and
is free and open to the public.
No tickets or reservations are
necessary. The event will be held
rain or shine.

NOW
AVAILABLE! Author Residency
Handbooks for Schools, Settlement
Houses and After-school Programs
|
|
Based
on a decade of programs in reading
and writing, the National Book
Foundation has recently brought
together its experience with students
residing in under-served areas
across the country to create two
new handbooks: Author Residency
Handbook and Writers in
Indian Country: A Handbook for
Author Residency Programs with
Native American Students.
Both books draw on the advice
of authors, educators, and coordinators
who have participated in the Foundation's
educational outreach programs
and include anecdotes, activities,
and quotes from noted writers
such as children's and young adult
author Katherine Paterson, poet
Nikki Giovanni and fiction writer
Bob Shacochis. The handbooks are
useful for schools and community
organizations planning for an
author residency or searching
for ideas on how to get students
excited about the joys of reading
and writing.
For a free copy of one of the
books, please send a check for
$3.00 for postage and handling,
made payable to the National Book
Foundation at 95 Madison Avenue,
Suite 709, New York, NY 10016.
