Booksellers and Libraries to Receive Materials to Promote this Year's National Book Awards
In mid September the National Book Foundation will send shelf-talkers, book tags, and belly benders to independent booksellers and librarians across the country to help spread the word about this year's National Book Award Finalists and Winners. The twenty fiction, nonfiction, poetry and young people's literature finalists will be announced on October 10, and the winner in each genre will be announced on the evening of November 14 at the National Book Awards ceremony. Suggestions to design a host of promotional materials to highlight National Book Award books came from a number of booksellers and librarians at this year's BookExpo America. The promotional materials will also be available to download from our website.

National Book Foundation Participates in Brooklyn Book Festival
The National Book Foundation is thrilled to once again participate in this year's second annual Brooklyn Book Festival, to be held in Downtown Brooklyn on Sunday, September 16, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Last year the Foundation participated as a cultural partner to help showcase Brooklyn's literary side. This year we will have a booth and look forward to meeting and speaking to readers, writers, librarians, booksellers, teachers, or anyone curious about the National Book Foundation's programs and the National Book Awards. Reading hot spots maps and shelf-talkers will be available at our booth, and brand new medallions can be ordered.

The festival will present National Book Award authors Rajiv Chandrasekaran, Paula Fox, Mary Gaitskill, Gloria Naylor, and Jacqueline Woodson. Other authors scheduled to be present are Jim Carroll, Mike Farrell, Kimiko Hahn, Philip Lopate, Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez, and Colson Whitehead.
