Tuesday, November 18, over 250 middle
and high school students from New
York City public and independent
schools interviewed the 2008 National
Book Award Finalists in Young People's
Literature at the Schomburg Center
for Research in Black Culture for
the Eleventh National Book Awards
Teen Press Conference. Underwritten
by Con Edison, all participants
received special press kits designed
by MindVolt. Following the Conference,
students met the authors informally
at a reception. To receive author
sheets from the special press kits
of one or all of the Young People's
Literature, please send a request
to syoung@nationalbook.org.
The author sheet includes a bio,
a summary and space for taking notes
about the honored book.

At the third
"5 Under 35" invitation-only
event, the work of the next generation
of young fiction writers was celebrated
at the packed-to-capacity Tribeca
Cinemas. This year's honorees,
Matthew Eck, Keith Gessen, Sana
Krasikov, Nam Le, and Fiona Maazel,
who were selected by former National
Book Award Winners and Finalists,
gave a brief reading from their
selected book to writers, editors,
agents, publishers, journalists
and bloggers. The event was emceed
by Dean Wareham and deejayed by
Chuck Klosterman.

Eat,
Drink and Be Literary at Brooklyn
Academy of Music Begins in January
2009
|

The Brooklyn
Academy of Music (BAM) presents
eight acclaimed authors for Eat,
Drink & Be Literary: Dinner
and a Reading
in BAMcafé. The
events begin at 6:30 p.m. with live
music and wine provided by Napa
Valley's award-winning Pine
Ridge Winery, followed by a delicious
buffet dinner in the BAMcafé
prepared by executive chef Tim Sullivan.
At 8:00 p.m. the literary program
begins with authors reading from
their works, after which they will
participate in a discussion with
the moderator and answer questions
from audience members.
