Author Biography

Donald Justice, who died on August 6, 2004 at the age of 78, was a National Book Award Finalist in 1961, 1974, and 1995. He won the Pulitzer Prize for his Selected Poems in 1979. He was the author of numerous collections of poems and the recipient of myriad distinguished prizes and grants. Born in Miami, Florida, he held teaching positions at Syracuse University, the University of California at Irvine, Princeton University, the University of Virginia, the University of Iowa, and the University of Florida in Gainesville. He served as a Chancellor of The Academy of American Poets from 1997 to 2003.
