Mr. Meltzer talked with each group about how
his family came to this country as immigrants and, for
a time, lived in their neighborhood; how he became a
writer; and who his major influences have been. Each
workshop allowed for lively question-and-answer sessions.
In 1995, the National Book Foundation
presented three author residencies in City Settlements,
as well as sponsored its Summer Writing Camp in alliance
with United Neighborhood Houses and the YMCA.
