Brenda J. Child

Brenda J. Child is Northrop Professor of American Studies and former Chair of the Department of American Studies and the Department of American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota, where she received the President’s Community Engaged Scholar Award in 2021. The recipient of a 2022 Guggenheim Fellowship, Child is the author of several award–winning books in American Indian history and a bestselling bilingual book for children, Bowwow Powwow. Her current book project is The Marriage Blanket: Love, Violence, and the Law in Indian Country. Child is a citizen of the Red Lake Ojibwe Nation in northern Minnesota.
