Carmen Giménez Smith is the author of Be Recorder and five previous poetry collections, including Cruel Futures and Milk and Filth, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. She is also the author of the lyric memoir Bring Down the Little Birds, winner of an American Book Award. She teaches at Virginia Tech University and lives in Blacksburg, Virginia.
