Freeman won his second Pulitzer Prize in 1958 for his six volume biography of George Washington, his first was awarded for his four volume biography of Robert E. Lee. Aside from being a famed writer, he was also a newspaper reporter, editor and in 1925, one of the first radio personalities. The Douglas S. Freeman High School in Richmond, Virginia was named after him.

Douglas S. Freeman
