A Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and recipient of an American Academy of Arts & Letters Award for Literature, he has translated more than 50 books, including works by Arthur Rimbaud, Gustave Flaubert, Patrick Modiano, and Marguerite Duras.
