Monica DeGarmo is privileged to be an ELA teacher of Detroit Public Schools Community District where she teaches 10^th Grade English, AP Literature, and AP Seminar at Marygrove High School. Her passion is place-based learning. Whether that’s kayaking the Detroit River to learn about prohibition in relation to The Great Gatsby or camping in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan after reading The Firekeeper’s Daughter. Monica loves finding creative ways to engage in history and literature with students. She and her husband live down the street from Marygrove and if the temperature is above 50 degrees, you’ll likely find her in the garden.
