Despite achieving some success as a biographer, Schachner was primarily a science fiction writer and Schachner’s most well known novel, Space Lawyer was published a year after Thomas Jefferson. Fellow National Book Award finalist Isaac Asimov cited Schachner as one of the authors that inspired him to start writing science fiction.
