There is a brief introduction by Harold Augenbraum, executive director of the National Book Foundation, presenter of the National Book Awards. Shalom Auslander reads from his memoir, Foreskin’s Lament, followed by a Q&A session with the moderator, Harold Augenbraum, and the audience. Auslander discusses the abuse of religious authority he experienced as a child and how that informs his current professional and personal life and why he chose memoir and not fiction to tell his story.
